    Free Hosting

I have noticed there are a ton of companies that offer "free hosting" do these companies usually last? How do they make a profit?

Same way File Hosting providers do it, they give you free but limited service and entice you with all the premium features. Some also place their ads on the free websites so they get free advertising.

Usually, they offer poor service, however sometimes do last quite long. Free hosts is a no go for me.

I trust a free hosting service if they start from paid hosting, then grown and open free hosting.

Many times they will place advertisements on your site to generate revenue for themselves.

Free hosting is almost never good. If you're looking for free forum hosting that's established and been around for awhile such as zetaboards.com or jcink.com it's a different story, however free website hosts are almost never good.....they are usually a case of 'you get what you pay for', support is crap and there are advertisements placed on your site.

    There are some good ones
Knowledgesutra for example is from a reputed paid hosting company, but you get free for posting in their community

I've had a really good experience with Atspace. They offer free hosting, and started out as a piad hosting company. Haven't had a single problem and they don't have ads.
