Usually, if there's two or more admins, the admins will do the same jobs. On a few places I Admin at, all the admins have different assignments. For example:
Main admin deals with advertising, affiliates, generating revenue, etc.
Co-Admin deals with the technical side of the forum.
And, if there's a third admin, maybe they could deal with member and staff management.
Do you use this kind of system with your co-admin(s)?
Since I'm the only admin on my forum, this isn't applicable. =P
But, since I am one of the Admins of a new social network, yes. We have a few admins, one who is the owner, one who is head of support, and a communications admin.
Have a problem, or just a general question about WBB? Post in Support, or email me @ seenoevil4@yahoo.com
On the forums I co own. The owner/founder does all the back end sort of work with themes ect.. and I advertise the forums and help with the content and moderation. So we both have different sort of jobs although we overlap on the jobs sometimes.

I've been an admin on forums where each set of people had different roles. They sometimes overlap some....like the main owner may still remove spam if he sees it, but for the most part, he's going to market or work on themes, etc. On a really big forum I work on, there are mods for various section of the board, so those teams sort of work together on their own beyond what the whole board does. That means, those particular mods may end up having different roles than the global admin of the whole area might.
Who says we can't still play with our food? Quirky Cookery
I have my admins all do different jobs around my forums. I take care of the technical back-end stuff and major decision making and advertising while others focus on members, spam and basic moderation and such. I have one admin who does some coding while another does themes and such.
In my site, I used to be the 'general manager' meaning I took care of coding, new projects, moderation, etc., just because I liked it that way. My co-admin took care of launching events and contests, fixing any grammar mistakes, moderating and also coming up with new ideas. It was our paid tech who took care of most coding activities and updates.
I don't mind redundancy, in case one of the other admins falls I can have the tranquillity the rest knows how to do what she or he was doing. At the moment I am the only admin but if I get someone else probably they would be the global moderator side (including banning, announcing news, etc) while I can focus on stuff behind the curtains without feeling the board will go dead.
Only if we are talking of 3 or more, I think it is best to have a schedule of specific duties.
