    Family on forums

Have you ever had a member of your family join your forum? If yes, did it make things harder on you? If you've never had family on your forum, what would you do if they did join? I know having family around would make some people change how they would normally act.

I've never had family on my forum [thankfully], so I can't comment much. If someone were to join, I'd be a bit hesitant about it, but it wouldn't bother me at all.

My cousin use to frequent my forums back in the day when we were both younger. It wasn't much of a problem. I don't know if I'd want any of my siblings on the forum, or my parents for that matter, though. That'd make things just a bit awkward I think. Not to mention, I doubt my parents would even know how to use it. My mom can barely use facebook.

My older brother has joined some of my forums, but it didn't really change anything since we're like close friends.

No. My brother is just not into forums, I don't really get along with my dad, and my mom can't manage to login to her Yahoo account on her own I wouldn't want them to join anyway. As an admin you have to be strict sometimes, and I just wouldn't be able to do that with a family member...

That's a good point too. Plus it looks really bad on you if you're more lean-ant towards a family member, it kinda looks like favoritism which isn't a good thing for your members to see.

I'd never show favoritism towards a family member on my forum, I usually make sure to treat everyone equally cause I know how it can cause problems.

The problem is, no one is going to believe that. If an admin has family on the forum, everyone will automatically think they're getting special treatment, even if they aren't.

Yeah, that's true... That happens a lot with close friends being members of the forum as well.

No, no, no. Absolutely not. I wouldn't even let family know that I'm on forums, much less that I run one myself or give them specifics. I'm not very close with any extended family, and my close family...while I love them...are not people I would want on the same forums I frequent either.

I think it'd make it harder on my own personal forum, too, because like it's said above, even if you try not to give special treatment, it would be assumed anyway.

Fortunately no. I'm not saying I wouldn't want my family on my forum, I'm just saying it would be awkward. For example if they saw a topic that looked inappropriate (it happens sometimes when the rules aren't followed), they'd be asking questions as to why this is on here.
