How do you decide to hire a new staff member? Do you open up staff applications? Or decide who would be best and then approach that person?
I look at who I think would be best for the job and then ask them if they'd like to be staff![]()
I've never done applications before. I always just decide from who is an active, loyal member.
Have a problem, or just a general question about WBB? Post in Support, or email me @ seenoevil4@yahoo.com
Same here, hiring an active member is better since he's already recognized by the community.

I've done both, chosen active and dedicated members and have also given the opportunity to submit an application...
Though, I've never actually hired, as in pay, someone to be a staff member on one of my forums.
I first open to the existing members before out sourcing to others.

Not only are they already recognized by the community, but they're also familiar with the people there, the rules, the expectations, etc. Bringing in a stranger makes it harder for both sides to adjust. And having applications submitted means it's usually people who want the recognition of being a moderator/staff than it is someone who actually wants to help the community and is willing to continue being a regular user as well.

I review their performance on the forum, how active they are, their grammar & spelling, their attitude, etc..then If I like them, I discuss it with other staff.
Depends. If I see a member that could qualify as a mod, I usually PM them offering the position. If I'm in need of a new mod and can't see which one to pick, then I open an applications topic for a few weeks and them choose one.
Usually I open applications, because we run a generally close-knit community. Sometimes we do approach members directly though![]()
