    Mini mods

Mini mods: Users who are not moderators, but act like it.

Do you ever have problems with mini mods? How do you deal with them?

I've never had the issue on my forum, but I've been on others where it was an issue. If it ever happened on my forum, I'd PM the member in question and just let them know to stop, and leave moderating to the actual staff.

You're our mini mod .. but in a good way. Hence why we haven't asked you to stop .

I've mostly had good experience with "mini-mods." They're usually the type who try to squish arguments before they get too crazy or remind people of the rules, get things back on topic, etc. They're generally good members and don't mean any harm. There have been a few times where those kinds of people have gotten a little out of hand and wanted to throw a fit over every little rule being bent, but usually a nice PM gets them back in shape.

Oh my, YES! I've had many of those before. Most of them come from other promotion sites; they probably feel superior than regular members because they admin their own sites. Pathetic.

As for people who use the report system properly, THOSE are great. They don't act like mods in public, they just let us mods know about when a member isn't following our guidelines.

Yes!! I love these kinds of members. It can get a little annoying if they report every little thing....or if there's a spammer that hits the board and they report -every- post instead of just saying "hey, this guy is spamming." On big forums where it's impossible for mods to see every single post, though, they're essential for pointing out when things get out of hand and we don't notice immediately.

This ^. Well for the size of my community my staff is pretty much on top of things. We don't really have any mini-mods. I however, have a particular user who will pop in from time to time and ask to be an admin or 'junior admin'. whatever that is anyways I keep turning him down solely on the purpose that he doesn't care for the community he just wants power over it. THOSE people are the kind I cannot stand....

I can't re-call having any problems like this. Frankly, as long as they're not taking the job into their hands too much, I don't mind. For example if they are just answering questions that people would expect staff to answer, but it's correct, I don't mind.

Our members actually seem to not do that. Even though we have 400+ members most of them report posts/topics that are going against the rules rather than stepping in. Which is great as we don't even have a 'you can't moderate a user' or such kind of rule.
