    Enforcing Rules

Do you enforce the set rules or guidelines at your forum? How many warnings will you give a user?

I never let them slip past a warning. I stick the warnings good to them. You can have up to 10 warnings at Minted Host, and then your banned forever. We don't EVER revoke warnings, unless the administration approves an appeal.

I always enforce my rules. Warnings, I'll give a free warning or two to someone depending on who they are. The third time you've been warned, you get suspended from the forum. (Suspension is basically a ban, except they can still log in, and see only one section - suspended forum)

I always do. We have a 4 warnings system. When you reach the 4th one, you're banned forever. I don't believe in temporary bans.

I like that idea, having a suspension forum. You'd need to make sure you give the group permissions to do virtually nothing though, i.e. PM, using signatures, etc.

I find figured to do it like the school system, and leave the expulsion aka ban for the absolute last step. I doubt I'd ever have to suspend a member, thus why I haven't bothered adding mods/codes to disable a suspended users sig, avy, etc. They can still private message, but can only see one section, and one only.

I hate enforcing the rules, but I have to. My members get mad at me when I enforce the rules which makes it difficult. 3 warnings and your banned at my forum.

I don't have a concise set of "you did this this will happen to you" way to deal with rule breaking. I always act depending the attitude.
For example, some people flood accidentally or Spam, so I usually simply separate the fragment and throw it to the Spam area with a friendly notice about why I separated it. Many times I don't even need to explain to them before they already understand it and stop doing it. I only warn by PM if it becomes annoying what they are doing or if it something more serious. Depending their attitude with the answer and actions we let go or give more severe measures.

In general I try to run the forums without making much fuzz, if we can silently purge and privately advise people what not to do, I think the forum feels more relaxed. When I see people getting publicly warned and stuff for things like spammy posts or accidentally announcing their link without permission, it makes me feel uneasy, so I try to avoid it as much as possible in our community.

The respect rule is the one I do try to enforce as much as possible, as well as taking care to comply with the ToS.
