My favourite software if only free would be MyBB and if you include the paid ones, it would have to be vBulletin.

If I had the money XenForo or VBulletin but because I don't have money I am using SMF. I know SMF isn't the best for a promotion forum but things work great by now so I am not planing on changing it.

^ This. Been using IPB since 1.0.1. Love it. It's perfect for my needs and always stays up with the times. Definitely worth the price. I've used other scripts inbetween going back and forth to IPB and none really compare. I think their biggest competition nowadays is Xenforo. vBulletin isn't much of a threat anymore.

MyBB - it does everything you could possibly need, plus it has good built in spam protection, which saves you from having to install plugins yourself.

In free forums software wise PHPBB is my favorite and paid one's wise vBulletin is the favorite forum software not only favorite but also powerful forum board software.
