i dont think there is any "best" shopping cart.
but i do think you should take a look at this link, there are loads, and your also able to test demos, and see what one you like the most.

I would say it is the virtuemart component for joomla. This component has so many addons and stuff. I love it! And the best part is, it is entirely free.

You are spoilt for choice with the amount of shopping carts to choose from. If money is no object, Magento is a popular choice. Be aware, there are plenty of free options like Zen Cart and osCommerce. You do not have to pay through the nose for premium templates either, the standard templates can be modified easily enough.
