provided that you have the option of SATA drives on your rig, the latest and greatest are SSD drives; alias Solid State. they are vastly superior to mechanical drives and extremely fast. unfortunately, they are still quite expensive. however, if you are like the majority of users and only use 20-80 gigs of space, they are well-worth having...how much money do you want to spend?
these drives are available everywhere now, so chose your size; 30-250 gigs!!!
The solid state drives may be more expensive than mechanical drives but they have dropped so much since they first came out. In 2003, I worked on a product that used these drives and each 2 Gb drive cost about 4K. It was quite ridiculous. Now, however, if you want this kind of hardware, it is at least within the realm of personal ownership. You also have the option to get a regular drive and a solid state drive, using the solid state only for disk intensive activities. You certainly don't need such a drive simply for storing your photos and videos.
I never compared my hard drive with other hard drive so i cannot conclude which hard drive is the best one. But, i am using Seagate and is awesome!
